Attorney General’s Office (AGO) of Indonesia, together with USDOJ-OPDAT held a seminar of Trafficking in Persons at Bangkok, May 29-31st 2022. The opening speech was delivered by the Indonesian Ambassador for the Kingdom of Thailand, HE Rachmat Budiman, Deputy Attorney General of Thailand, Mr Anun Teerachit, and Secretary Deputy Attorney General’s Office for General Crimes of Indonesia, Mr Yunan Harjaka, SH., MH., as well as the Head of Indonesian Delegation for the Attorney General’s Office and USDOJ-OPDAT Resident Legal Adviser, Mr Bruce Miyake. From Thailand, the Seminar was also attended by the representative of Anti Money Laundering Organization (AMLO), the Anti Trafficking Police Department (ATPD), and the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB). From Indonesia, the representative from the Directorate of Terrorism and Transnational Crime and The AGO Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy for the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr Virgaliano Nahan, also joined the meeting.

 The Seminar discussed and acted as a forum of insight changes on issues of Trafficking in Person faced by Indonesian and Thailand law enforcers. The discussion highlighted quite a significant decrease of TIPs cases in Indonesia and Thailand, especially post covid-19 when the borders were closed, and several MOs that the perpetrators have modified to avoid detection. The event also opens up communication channels for further actions needed to tackle TIPs happening transnationally. For the Seminar’s closing, the agenda was followed by a Panel Discussion on Cross-Cutting Issues on TIPs, moderated by the Head of the Governmental Inter-Agency Cooperation Sub Division, Mr L. Rinanto Haribuwono. The panel of experts consisted of AMLO Director of International Case Cooperation Section, Ms Tatpicha Chaiyatat, and ATPD Deputy Commander Pol. Colonel Narong Tesviboon, Acting Director of the Directorate of Terrorism and Transnational Crime, Mrs Anita Dewayani, and Director, International Coordination on Narcotics Law Enforcement ONCB, Mr Lucksatis Kittivatana.
