Friday, the 17th of February 2023 – This week, the AGO of Indonesia and the AGC of Singapore held a meeting to review and renew the cooperation on legal matters that have been in place since both parties signed their MoU in 2017.

The MoU covers the scope of exchanging information on legislation and subjects of common interest, exchanging experiences and best practices, as well as to provide information (upon request) on its nationals involved in prosecution and in accordance with the laws, regulations, rules and policies in force in respective countries.

In his opening remarks, Deputy AG of Advancement (Dr Bambang Sugeng Rukmono) who was accompanied by the Head of Legal and International Affairs (Bernadetta Maria Elastiyani), and the Head of Cooperation & Foreign Relations (Andre Abraham) highlighted the important roles played by both parties in guiding the rule of law. He urged that both parties could strengthen their bond and work in synergy to ensure legal certainty and equality before the law for both perpetrators and victims of crimes.

The negotiation was held in hybrid and co-chaired by Mahayu D Suryandari and M Yusfidli Adhyaksana on 16 Feb 2023 to 17 Feb 2023. The Indonesia delegates consisted of prosecutors who represented: the Deputy AG (DAG) for General Crime, the DAG for Special Crimes, DAG for Civil & State Administrative Law, DAG for Military, Education and Training Board, Asset Recovery Centre, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The AGC of Singapore was represented by Mr Ivan Chua (Deputy Chief Prosecutor, Crime Division), Mr Hay Hong Chung (Deputy Chief Prosecutor, Crime Division), Ms Deena Bajrai (Deputy State Counsel, International Affairs Division), Mr Jerome Lee (Director Strategic Communication, Corporate Service Division) and Mr Agustin Chiam (Deputy Director Strategic Communication, Corporate Service Division).

Both parties agreed to further explore the areas of cooperation and extend the MoU for another three years.
